One in five Windows computers is running Windows 11

StatCounter released operating system market share data for March 2023. The data shows that Windows 11's market share reached a record high in March 2023, with one in five Windows computers running Microsoft's latest operating system.

In terms of the Windows market, Windows 11's market share rose to 20.94 percent from 19.13 percent in February, an increase of 1.81 percentage points, the data showed. And Windows 10 has also grown, but not as much as in February, when Microsoft stopped support for security updates for Windows 7 and 8.1. Windows 10 currently still holds the largest share at 73.48%, an increase of 0.17 percentage points from the previous month.


As Microsoft announced the end of the Extended Security Update Program (ESU) for Windows 7 and 8.1, users began to "escape" these two older versions of the system faster. Windows 7's market share fell to 3.72 percent in March, down 1.62 percentage points from February. Windows 8.1 currently has a 0.84 percent share, down 0.3 percentage points from February.
